A Paradise of Experience / Cover Feature for The Line of Best Fit with Ludovico Einaudi
I wandered around the London Palladium while waiting for Ludovico and in a 5-minute-rush of hyperfocus mixed with nervousness and fuelled by my excited broken heart, I picked a few spots in the theatre, I measured the light, I memorised some compositions and I told the team I was ready. Ludovico greeted me warmly and his eagerness to follow my prompts and participate in one way or another in something photography related (he’s a big fan) was contagious, familiar and calming. He smiled after looking at every shot on the screen of my Nikon DSLR and we quickly dived into a passionate conversation about cameras, film, memories and family photos. London… the London Palladium was empty, we sat in the middle of the stalls section for the last shots and I was invited to photograph the soundcheck afterwards. I stood alone in one of the balconies, as they rehearsed “Experience”, the song that plays in one of my favourite scenes of all time in one of my favourite movies of all time. How / was / this / happening. I held my breath. I pressed the shutter trying to frame as many empty seats as possible, the emptiness filled with this music was a powerful image I wanted to capture. A secret, a moment I couldn’t believe I was able to watch, yet alone keep forever.
I said goodbye and left with a piece of panettone from the backstage catering. 💙 but really, I took so much more with me that night. And left a promise in return.
